Now in its ninth season, Tata Steel’s Women of Mettle Scholarship is a pioneering initiative to promote gender diversity in technical fields. Aimed at second-year female students in technical schools, this program offers a platform to showcase engineering skills in smarter steelmaking. It’s not just a scholarship—it’s an intellectual marathon designed to foster collaboration among students, academia, and the corporate sector, creating promising career opportunities in India’s manufacturing sector.

Eligibility Criteria
- Gender: Female only
- Course Type: Full-time 4-year B.Tech/B.E. program
- Year of Study: Second year (graduating in 2027)
- Academic Performance: Top 25% of their stream with no backlogs
- Eligible Disciplines: Computer Science, IT, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Metallurgy, Mining, Mining Machinery, Mineral Processing, Chemical, Civil Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Environment
- Note: Students in dual degrees or integrated programs are not eligible.
Team Structure
- Teams can have one or two members.
- Both members must be from the same institute and branch.
- Cross-specialization or cross-institute teams are not allowed.
- A student can join only one team.
- Only students from select Indian institutes are eligible.
Rewards and Opportunities
The top 10 finalists will enjoy:
- Scholarship: ₹2,00,000 (subject to tax deduction; divided equally for team entries).
- Pre-Placement Offer (PPO): Conditional on strong internship performance.
- Mentorship: Guidance from Tata Steel’s leaders and past finalists.
- Internship: Opportunity to join Tata Steel’s flagship internship program.
- Scholarship Continuation: Available for the remaining two years if students maintain top 25% academic performance each semester.
Project Guidelines
Shortlisted teams will tackle real-world technical challenges provided by Tata Steel. The submission for the pre-screening round must be a PowerPoint presentation (maximum 12 slides) covering:
- Executive Summary
- Introduction to the Problem Statement
- Analysis of the Problem
- Recommendations
Evaluation is based on practical applicability and feasibility. Annexures are not allowed in the initial round but are mandatory for the final presentation.
